Jennifer Lopez on relationship expectations: ‘I have a real button on being ignored’

The diva, who appears on the October cover of Cosmopolitan, is making a big comeback as judge for the 13th season of "American Idol." She will also appear in the highly anticipated film about the true story of the Chilean miners, "The 33," alongside Antonio Banderas.
If that weren't enough, Lopez, 44, is working on her eighth studio album, more product lines, and has solidified her place behind-the-scenes in television as executive producer for the ABC Family drama "The Fosters."

Lopez has undeniably confirmed herself as a businesswoman who takes her own approach to getting the job done.
"Everybody in (business meetings) might be more business-minded, but for me, if I'm talking about marketing or promotions or why a piece of clothing is made, it all comes from an emotion," she told the magazine, on stands Sept. 10. "I'm more of an artist, so when I'm able to use that muscle, I feel like I'm in my element."

Despite all of her successes, the mother of 5-year-old twins Max and Emme isn't without flaws.

Lopez sang "Happy Birthday" to the president of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, on June 29 in that country. Later, she regretted the performance due to the backlash she received because of the leader's oppressive record of human rights violations.
"I know that being seen as a role model means taking responsibility for all my actions," she said. "I am human, and of course, sometimes I make mistakes. But I promise that when I fall, I get back up. When I am wrong, I will learn the lesson and move on to face other challenges. For me, that's what creating your own life is. Doing your best work while being your best self."
The "On the Floor" singer has definitely created a life of her own, which now includes her 26-year-old choreographer boyfriend Beau (Casper) Smart. Lopez started dating Smart after splitting from ex-husband Marc Anthony in 2011.

"For me, it's about having a great partner to walk this life with," she added. "I have my own high standards for what I want in a partner and how I want to be treated. I bring a lot to the table. I'm not talking about material things but what I have to offer as a person — love and loyalty and all the things that make a good relationship."
Lopez's love life has often been under a spotlight, as her exes include music moguls and Hollywood heavy hitters. From Sean "Diddy" Combs to Ben Affleck, the "Selena" actress has had her fair share of romance and admitted how matters of the heart may just be her downfall, especially when she's not getting the attention she desires.
"It's funny, early on with Beau, I remember telling him how I have a real button on being ignored," she confessed. "And he was like, 'Listen, if somebody ignores you, then forget them. They don't deserve to have your attention.' But it's funny. Sometimes when we don't get it, we try to get it in a negative way, you know?"

While she has got it all together in her career and exudes independence and confidence, Lopez wasn't always so sure about herself.
"The biggest insecurity I had was my singing," the platinum-selling recording artist revealed. "Even though I had sold 70 million records, there was this feeling like 'I'm not good at this.'"
The "Let's Get Loud" singer credits Marc Anthony with helping her get over the self-doubt in her singing abilities during their marriage.
"While I was married to Marc, he helped me get over it," she said. "He kept telling me, 'You're the only one holding yourself back from reaching your full potential as a singer. You have to let go' … I was always so insecure and just kind of going along. Then I grew, little by little, and realized, 'wait a minute, this is not a fluke. I'm not a mistake — I work my ass off. And I know what I'm doing.'"
